Praying for Others

In whatever rough times you are going through right now where you need God’s immediate intervention, be encouraged. God, the Source, is fully aware. Do you know how this knowledge can serve you? When you refuse to worry because you understand that God is your Source, and your times are in His hands, you can present Him your Prayer of Petition and then start praying for other people. You’re so confident that He will answer your prayer that now you have the opportunity to pray for your friends, relatives, coworkers and others that the Lord puts on your heart.

Over the years, I’ve discovered that the sooner I get me and my needs off my mind and get involved in the needs of other people, I get one step closer to seeing God work in my behalf. First Thessalonians 4:12 tells us that if we “walk honestly toward them that are without . . . ye may have lack of nothing.” In other words, if we receive the revelation that God is our Source, that He knows what we need, that our time is in His hands, we can use our time and energy in a more fruitful way by being a blessing to somebody else, interceding for somebody else and sowing into somebody else’s life.

Since I’ve learned about the effectiveness and the power of the Prayer of Petition, I can tell you that I spend very little time praying for myself or my needs. Somebody asked me, “Brother Jerry, how many hours a day do you pray?” I said, “That’s a good question. I really don’t know.” He continued, “But you’ve been in the ministry for 40 years. You must pray all day.” While I am in prayer mode all the time, I don’t focus a lot on myself.

In all my years of following God, He’s never let me down once. So why should I start worrying now and spend all my time talking to Him about me when He’s already proven that He takes care of Jerry Savelle? I think the best use of my time is to intercede for someone else, to look for an opportunity to be a blessing to somebody else and to help someone else enjoy victory.

I’m telling you today that one of the quickest ways to get your needs met is to get involved in meeting the needs of somebody else. There’s just something about doing that that attracts God to you. I call that Christianity at another level.

Instead of worrying about your situation, be confident. Be assured. Rest in the revelation that God will provide for you. He will never let you down.
